Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that Welsh international Gareth Bale will return to his squad for the next league game, a top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool at Anfield. He made this known while fielding questions from reporters shortly after the disappointing 1-1 draw with hosts Crystal Palace in the London Derby. In his post-match press conference after the matchday twelve clash with hosts Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, Mourinho said that Gareth Bale missed the London Derby meeting due to illness and that the Welshman has not tested positive to Covid-19.
Gareth Bale has not made the expected impact on his return to Spurs this summer as he has spent a lot of time on the bench especially in the Premier League. He had to leave Real Madrid this summer in search of more first team football at Spurs whom he joined on loan for the current campaign.
He has more playing time at Spurs in comparison to his time at Real Madrid last season but he’s not a regular in the team. Gareth Bale has played nine times for the Premier League pacesetters this season in 22 times for a combined total of 509 minutes. A lot of the minutes came in the Europa League. Jose Mourinho has always preferred Dutch forward Steven Bergwijn to Gareth Bale in his Premier League squad.
When Gareth Bale left Real Madrid for Tottenham Hotspur on loan at the start of this season, the expectation was that the Welsh international will form a devastating front trio with Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane but that has not happened. England national team skipper Harry Kane and his South Korean counterpart Heung-Min Son have been the top two major players at Spurs and the aforementioned Bergwijn has been the preferred third forward for the majority of this season ahead of both Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura.
