The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that people should not get carried away with the current form of the Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, who has been compared with the likes of Ronaldo and Messi in the last few weeks. Bale has managed to score seven goals in his last five appearances in all competitions. He has also managed to score from several free kicks this season. This has led to people comparing him to Messi and Ronaldo, who are widely regarded as the two best players in the world. However, Wenger feels that Bale still has a long way to go before he can be considered as the best player in the world.
He has said that Messi has won numerous Champions League and league titles over the years, while he also managed score almost 100 goals in the last calendar year. Bale, meanwhile, is yet to win the league title in his career. The 23-year-old recently scored his seventh goal in five matches with a wonderful freekick in the last minute against Lyon in the Europa league to hand Tottenham a 2-1 advantage in the first leg. Bale has linked with the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich over the years.
“Bale has the potential to develop and become the players that you compare him to. However, Messi has won two or three Champions League, a few championships, scored 95 goals in a year, so let’s not go too quick. You are always very quick here, but let’s slow down a little bit. It was Walcott and Bale, and we were at some stage on (about) taking the two if possible, but we could get Walcott and I am very happy we got him,” said Wenger, who also said that he is happy with signing Walcott instead of Bale.
